Below is a collection of useful hints, tips, tutorials, scripts, and other awesome little nuggets of goodness that have built up over the forums over the last few years. This list isn't exhaustive, but it should help point you in the right direction for most things you would want to achieve. I've tried to limit this to 'complete' instruction sets that pretty much let you go in and grab what you're after without needing to troll for the rest of the answers.
Sure, you could probably use the search function to find this stuff yourself, but if you don't know what you don't know, then you have no way of knowing what you gotta know to know what you gotta know. or.. something like that. My train of thought just derailed for a little while there...
Tips, Tricks and Tutorials:
- Manual / FAQ
- If in doubt, RTFM ... also includes videos!
[Windows] Advanced Context Menu & Cool Scripts Pack
- Installer will automatically create an Explorer Context Menu for renaming and fetching subtitles of files you're selecting. Also comes bundled with an OpenSubtitles login script, Subtitle Language Tag Removal script, Subtitle Fetch Language Selector, and the FileBot Auto Jar Updater.
[MANUAL] Configure OpenSubtitles and Sublight login
- Shows you how to make the OpenSubtitles login script that's included in the bundle above.
[GUIDE] Filebot + MediaInfo + Raspberry Pi
- Got Pi; Can FileBot. Is there anything that magical little box can't do?
Metadata >> Extended Attributes && Airdate >> Creation Time
- Nifty little set of instructions on how to take advantage of the new extended attributes functionality.
- Format Expressions
- A bit of an intro to what you can do with naming schemes and how you do it. Includes basic and advance examples, binding references, function references, and a donate button (*hint hint* lol)
How about sharing our format expressions?
- This is pretty much the main collection of 'polished' naming schemes. There's everything from the super basic to the super crazy (such as a crazy complicated one I've added to the mix, which is also included in the Context Menu pack up top). If you 'learn by example', this has pretty much everything you could want. There's also a really good chance that the format you're wanting is already here, just waiting for you to copy it.
XBMC naming schemes (and Frodo)
- Apparently XBMC is really picky about the format. If you're an XBMC user, this may be a good reference.

Taking Release group from {group}, if not, from filename
Release Groups {group}
- Got a new release group that doesn't seem to be detecting? Let us know about it here.
- How about sharing your CLI scripts?
Contains a collection of useful scripts that rednoah has created. If you want something to happen, there's a good chance it's in here.
CODE: Examples and Snippets
- Really useful collection of bits and pieces compiled by rednoah. If you know you're looking for something, but aren't sure what - try here.
Automated Media Center
- Two parts epic, one part awesome, with just a hint of frigging-brilliant. This will help you automate the whole process of unrar'ing completed downloads, grouping them based on if they're movies or episodes, fetching subtitles, organising and renaming them based on your selected naming scheme, fetching artwork and generating nfi files, notifying XBMC, logging into MyEpisodes and mark newly downloaded episodes as 'acquired', and then sending a report about newly added files per email.
[GUIDE] Fully Automated Media Center with Transmission (Mac)
- Similar to the above, but for those dreaded 'Mac' users (which means it's instantly less cool - sorry).
[GUIDE] Fully Automated Media Center with pyLoad
- You may be sensing a pattern here. There's also a German version and a GitHub for this one though.
[GUIDE] XBMCbuntu + Deluge(YaRSS2&Execute) + Filebot AMC
- The guide is specific to x86, so x64 users will need to adjust accordingly, but yeah - it's another automated media centre guide.
[SCRIPT] FileBot.jar Auto Updater (Windows)
- Quick little tool for Windows that will update your FileBot.jar to the newest version while also making a backup of your old one. This is also included in the context menu script pack.
[TOOL] Escape Tool for escaping cmdline arguments
- If you're working with cmdline arguments and are fighting with quotes, this little escape tool can auto create properly escaped code and help save your sanity.
CODE: Send email/growl/etc notifications
- Send notifications about renamed/moved files etc.
[Script] Email yourself missing and upcoming episodes
- Searches your TV Shows and scrape online DB to find out what episodes you're missing, then sends you an email about it. Example uses cron to run the groovy script, but you should be able to adapt it to whatever floats your boat.
CODE: FolderWatchService
- Here's a basic example for watching folders for new files. It'll just print the added/changed files.
[FAQ] WARNING: Failed to preload libzen
- Run into that error? This explains it and tells you how to fix it
[DEB] FileBot Auto-Install Script for Ubuntu
- Since there is no PPA, here's a shell script you should be able to just copy & paste into a terminal to install Java 7 and FileBot
Using FileBot for machine learning (with MALLET)
- OK, this serves minimal practical application (if any), but it's kinda cool.
